Dexter in Detail -
Dexter is a LARGE alpha male. He is socially dependent on humans but tries to present himself as being independent. He is the classic example of a cat who thinks he owns his human! He loves anyone that is willing to give him copious amounts of petting cuddles, scratches, and food! He is the perfect companion for a person that is willing to accommodate his large physique (and appetite) and be available for his every whim.
Dexter has resided with his siblings and mother for all his life, but he does not appear to be dependent on any of those relationships. However, if he were adopted along with either of his siblings, the pairing would probably go well. He would not do well to be added to a home with any other alpha personalities.
Dexter often delights and surprises us with his antics. He is a hunter and almost daily brings us lizards. He sometimes gets himself into the ridiculous situations (like being stranded on top of a bookcase). Overall, no one is ever disappointed with this sweet boy, due to his innocent, curious nature that is so enduring and lovable.
My only disagreements with Dexter are that he tries to jump onto my work area while I am completing art projects or computer work. This is a minor, but enduring inconvenience for most people. He responds quickly to gentle discipline, but still insists on testing those boundaries somewhat frequently.
Overall, Dexter would thrive best in a peaceful environment that has occupants readily available to attend to his needs. Due to his sometimes rough play, he would not be suited for a home with very young children.
